It's impossible to see both images at the same time, that much is fact.
But the brain has to makes sense of the lines and shading it is presented with and which image it selects is pretty much heads or tails. Mood or conditioning may affect what is seen or it may not. So, not a good way of telling if someone is repressing a desire to bump off their mother in law as far as I can tell.
